Full Liverpool squad to face Aston Villa as four stars ruled out - Darwin Nunez start and Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic are due to be in full contention after overcoming their respective injury woes...

Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic are in contention for Liverpool again as Jurgen Klopp must juggle some defensive issues against Aston Villa.
Liverpool's next Premier League match against Aston Villa presents another tricky challenge.

The Reds are in search of a third successive league win that would also see them maintain an unbeaten start to the new campaign. However the Villans are no pushover having taken six points from their own possible nine, and were in fact the last team to escape Anfield with something to show for it when they earned a 1-1 draw in May.

There is also an added edge to the fixture as it is the last ahead of a two-week international break, therefore maintaining positive form ahead of the hiatus could prove to be key for two clubs aiming to climb the table from their respective fifth and seventh-placed finishes of 2022/23.

The key debate around Merseyside has been how Jurgen Klopp will line up his defence with a number of key names unable to play.

Captain Virgil van Dijk was handed a one-match suspension for his straight red card against Newcastle United last Sunday while Ibrahima Konate remains unfit to play after picking up a muscle injury over a week ago. Klopp told the press on Friday: "Ibou, no, he will not be ready for the game."

This means Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are in line to start together, leaving 20-year-old Jarell Quansah as back-up after Nat Phillips completed a loan exit to Celtic this week.

Moving onto midfield Klopp will also have to continue to work around the absence of Thiago Alcantara, who suffered a small hitch on his road to recovery this week. "Thiago had a little setback. He started training with the team and had a little setback so we have to slow down there a little bit," was the latest word from the Liverpool boss.

Ryan Gravenberch will not be able to make his debut just yet following his transfer deadline day arrival from Bayern Munich. However, Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic are due to be in full contention after overcoming their respective injury woes.
