Mikel Arteta is without a number of first-team regulars for Arsenal’s clash with Nottingham Forest today.
Arsenal have not completed the signing of new goalkeeper David Raya in time for him to be in the squad when they host Nottingham Forest today.
The Gunners had hoped to complete the deal for the Spaniard so could he could be available for the Emirates Stadium clash, but the paperwork has not been completed before the Friday noon deadline.
Asked if Raya had been signed quickly enough to make his Arsenal debut this Premier League opening weekend, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta replied: “No. We have no news on any incomings.”
Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jorginho will both be available, however.
Zinchenko has shaken off a calf injury in time to be available for the Emirates Stadium clash, having grafted to beat the issue across pre-season.
Jorginho had been carrying a muscle problem but boss Mikel Arteta expects the former Chelsea midfielder to be available for selection.
Gabriel Jesus will miss out as he continues to fight back from knee trouble. The Brazil forward could be back in tentative training next week but still remains some time away from a playing return.
Declan Rice will make his Premier League debut for the Gunners following his record £105million summer switch from West Ham.
Mikel Arteta will be desperate for his Arsenal side to get off to a flyer today, especially after Manchester City’s resounding victory last night.
The Gunners were pipped to the Premier League title by City last season after a final five-game collapse. But this time things just seems different.
Arteta has added some real quality to his ranks in the form of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya.
The starting XI almost picks itself really with Gabriel Jesus out injured.
Oleksandr Zinchenko could be back but he might not be match fit according to Arteta (The Sun), so a place on the bench is the best that the Ukrainian can hope for.
The one big decision that the Arsenal boss will have to make is whether to start Kieran Tierney or Jurrien Timber at left-back.
The Dutchman really impressed in the Community Shield against Manchester City last weekend, so I fully expect Arteta to give him the nod.
Here’s how I expect Arsenal to line up against Nottingham Forest at the Emirates this afternoon…
Aaron Ramsdale, Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel, Ben White, Declan Rice, Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havert, Bukayo Saka
