If Arsenal could have a perfect week in the window football.london has it to a tee with exits and incomings including the likes of Folarin Balogun and Mohammed Kudus.
Believe it or not, the Fulham game this weekend marks the final Arsenal match to be played inside the summer transfer window. It has simply flown by and I think much helped by the fact that the bulk of the business that the Gunners needed to get done was concluded in July with David Raya joining more recently.
However, with the injury to Jurrien Timber and the potential to add more in the forward line there is still work to be done. Ideally, some swift work in the market in the next few days would enable earlier integration of talent and so looking at this weekend’s clash with Fulham as something of guideline would be a challenge but very rewarding.
With that in mind, football.london takes a look at what a perfect final week in the window would look like ahead of the visit of the Cottagers. From incomings to outgoings sporting director Edu Gaspar will need to be a very busy man meaning no barbeques, just phone calls.
Bring in the money and make space
Despite what many might believe the issue with potential signings is, space is the main issue, rather than finances. Arsenal currently have a very bloated squad with Mikel Arteta leaving out plenty of senior playing staff despite having Jurrien Timber, Mohamed Elneny and Gabriel Jesus all injured.
Kieran Tierney, Folarin Balogun, Cedric Soares, Nicolas Pepe, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Athur Okonkwo are all awaiting resolutions to their situations as the deadline for registrations looms. Movement is expected to accelerate in the coming days and before the window shuts but to move them on before the game with Fulham would open the door to potential signings for sure.
The Timber replacement
One player that is a necessity whether players leave or not is the replacement for the injured Timber. An ACL injury which could rule him out for the entire season must be addressed to avoid a repeat of what happened with William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu contributing to the collapse of a title challenge.
Mohamed Simakan would be my number-one pick. The Frenchman is versatile enough to play at right-back and centre-half and has the mobility and versatility to perform to the demands of what Mikel Arteta expects.
There are alternatives like Benjamin Henrichs but the RB Leipzig French international ticks many more boxes. This position is an absolute must.
Mohammed Kudus… please!
Bring in Mohammed Kudus. It has got to the stage where I have thought about this signing so much it has become a case of trying to will it into existence.
The Ghanaian’s profile of a technical dribbler, with fantastic speed and goalscoring ability is perfect for what the Gunners need in their front line and to provide some respite for Bukayo Saka. The price is attainable but it's difficult not to think that it is linked to the exit of Balogun and hopefully both can be sorted swiftly.
