The former Leicester midfielder become the first signing to arrive at the Emirates Stadium this season.
According to 'The Mirror', Arsenal reached an agreement in principle in the last hours with Leicester City for the transfer of the Belgium international. The figures have not yet been disclosed, but a definitive agreement could be reached imminently.
The player finishes his contract with the Foxes in June 2023. Last season, he was a key player for Brendan Rodgers, making a total of 49 official appearances in which he scored seven goals and provided six assists.
The Gunners have been linked with the Belgian midfielder for multiple seasons now but a move never materialised. They tried signing him last summer too but later decided upon waiting one more year before making a move for him as a free agent.
FC Barcelona and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old. Liverpool were also amongst the clubs pursuing the former Monaco midfielder. Nonetheless, they have now pulled out of the race as they have deemed him “not mobile enough” for their requirements.
Arsenal are reportedly considering Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha as an option in the transfer market this summer as he nears becoming a free agent.
The Ivory Coast international has shone in his time in the Premier League but notably flopped in his only spell at a bigger club when he moved to Manchester United earlier in his career.
As he approaches becoming a free agent, it’s no surprise to see Zaha being eyed up by someone like Arsenal, but it seems he’s not their top priority.
According to the Mail, the Gunners will first look into whether they can sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Moussa Diaby before looking at Zaha as an alternative.
