Manchester United were knocked out of the Europa League at the quarter-final stage by Sevilla, with Erik ten Hag left furious with his squad as they capitulated yet again

Manchester United were dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday night with Erik ten Hag once again left furious with his players.

The Red Devils lost 3-0 to Sevilla to be knocked out at the quarter-final stage, a bitter disappointment to Ten Hag. The Dutchman rounded on goalkeeper David de Gea after the defeat, with the keeper having committed a series of errors to gift Sevilla their goals.

That blast came as Paul Scholes warned the United squad that their careers at Old Trafford are under threat and Ten Hag put four players up for sale ahead of the summer window. Here, Mirror Football looks at all the latest Manchester United news.

Ten Hag blasts De Gea

United boss Erik ten Hag was left furious with his players after their defeat to Sevilla. A series of dreadful errors by David de Gea proved to be the Red Devils' downfall, with all three of the hosts' goals preventable by the keeper.

And Ten Hag was in no mood to defend his team after their limp exit from the Europa League. He took aim at the mistakes that had been committed by De Gea as he pinpointed the reason for his team's defeat.

"It’s clear. When we make such mistakes, it’s difficult to win a football game. It’s a problem and we have to acknowledge it but against Brighton, we have an opportunity to work on that. You have seen what I have seen. We were not composed or calm," he told BT Sport.

Scholes sounds warning

Legendary United midfielder Paul Scholes has warned the Red Devils squad that their careers with the club are on the line. United put in a limp performance in the defeat to Sevilla and Scholes believes Ten Hag will now look to overhaul his squad.

“In the first half of the first leg the tie should have been done,” Scholes explained on BT Sport after the game. “The own goals United gave away in the first leg and what they conceded tonight were just a disaster.

“Martinez and Varane were big misses. Their replacements came in and should have had that experience to step up, but they did not. Tonight has made Ten Hag’s mind up on a few of these players.”

Four players put up for sale

Club chiefs at United have been instructed to sell four defenders in the summer window by boss Ten Hag. The Dutchman is keen to bring in Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.

But first, the Red Devils need to clear-out their underperforming players in the backline. As a result, Ten Hag is ready to sanction the sales of Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Brandon Williams and Alex Telles.

Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to be kept on, with Frimpong boosting Ten Hag's options in the department.
