Report: 'Incredible' player now set to miss Liverpool's next two games, he's picked up another injury in training

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is set to miss his team’s upcoming games against Manchester City and Chelsea.
Keita has had a dreadful season at Anfield, injury restricting him to just 13 appearances. That rather sums up his career as a whole at Liverpool – one which is due to come to an end when his contract expires this summer.

In the meantime though, there had been hope that Keita could still make a meaningful contribution. Unfortunately, Goal report today that this now looks like being an impossibility.

That’s because the 28-year-old is reportedly injured, yet again. Keita was withdrawn at half-time of Guinea’s win over Ethiopia on Monday with an undiagnosed issue. Since arriving back on Merseyside, Goal report that he has yet to train with his teammates.

Consequently, the midfielder is said to be ‘virtually certain’ to miss Liverpool’s next two games. With only 12 games of the season – and his Reds career – to go, he won’t get many more chances to pull on the red shirt.

This will go down as perhaps the least surprising news to come out of the latest international break. Seemingly every time Keita goes away with Guinea he seems to get injured.

Soon, that will no longer be Liverpool’s problem. But at a time when the Reds are looking incredibly light in midfield, they could really do with him right now.

Unfortunately, Naby’s body has let both he and his club down once again. Another nail in the coffin of a Reds career that had once promised to be ‘incredible.’

As a result, Jurgen Klopp has paper-thin midfield options heading into what is a huge week of the season. Preparing to face three of the best teams in the league, Klopp currently has to pick three from: Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Looking at that, it might be best if Klopp goes for a change of formation against City, Chelsea and Arsenal. He finally has all attacking options fit and available and could use the change to experiment on how to fit them all in. Right now, that sounds like Liverpool’s best chance of getting anything from the next three games. And the season.

Find a way to use them effectively, and it could give Liverpool a leg-up next campaign. Keita won’t be at Anfield when that rolls around. But for much of the last five years, he hasn’t been anyway. Oh, Naby. What a shame.
