Jurgen Klopp planning major rebuild as Liverpool willing to offer 'exceptional' star to land £120m attacking sensation

Liverpool are reportedly open to offering Luis Diaz in a swap deal for AC Milan forward Rafael Leao, with the Reds keen to sign the Portuguese international.

According to CalcioMercatoWeb, the Merseyside club are interested in bringing the Serie A superstar to Anfield in the summer, though with an asking price of €150m (£130m), a transfer would be impossible without thinking creatively, which is why Liverpool could offer Diaz in a swap deal for Leao.

Currently out with an injury, the Colombian international has been one of Liverpool’s best players since arriving last year from FC Porto, with Ronald de Boer lauding the forward as ‘exceptional’ after hitting the Premier League like a duck to water in the previous campaign.

However, with Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo in January and Diaz’s future now up in the air, a swap deal for Leao could be a great piece of business from Jurgen Klopp’s side, with the 26-year-old winger likely keen on a move to the San Siro.

Indeed, even though Liverpool’s idea of offering Diaz is a wise one, there’s still a good chance that Milan will reject the deal given just how valuable an asset Leao is, with a major European powerhouse potentially likely to match the winger’s asking price of £130m in the summer.

DIAZ SWAP DEAL FOR LEAO COULD WORK IF LIVERPOOL STAND ALONE IN THEIR INTEREST

As mentioned, Milan are potentially banking on receiving the full transfer fee for Leao in the summer, with the 23-year-old one of the best in the world and a talent who could command as much as £130m if a club is interested enough. Yet if not, then Liverpool could get away with a swap deal involving Diaz.

The Colombian international could be open on a move to Italy following the arrival of Gakpo earlier in the year, and with Leao able to play across the entire attacking line, the Portuguese star could be a better fit for Klopp’s rebuild than Diaz despite being an Anfield favourite.
