Man United v Newcastle United Team News: Seven players ruled out - plus two major ‘doubts’

Both Newcastle United and Manchester United are hoping for positive news on the injury front for today’s Carabao Cup final.
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe carried out his media duties on Tuesday afternoon, and provided the latest on his squad’s fitness and availability.

Howe was asked specifically about Joe Willock, Matt Targett and Joelinton. And since then, the pair have been spotted in training galleries released by the club.

Meanwhile, there are some question marks over Marcus Rashford’s fitness after the in-form Man United forward limped off against Barcelona on Thursday.

NewcastleWorld takes a look at the players ruled out of today’s Wembley visit - and those that are doubtful:

1. Nick Pope - suspended
Newcastle decided against appealing Pope’s red card v Liverpool, meaning he’ll serve his one-match against Man United in the Carabao Cup final.

2. Martin Dubravka - cup-tied
The Slovakian is cup-tied having played twice in the Carabao Cup during his loan spell at Man United.

3. Emil Krafth - ACL
Krafth sustained an ACL injury during the 2-1 Carabao Cup win at Tranmere Rovers in August but isn’t expected to return until next season.

4. Anthony Gordon - cup-tied
January signing Gordon is cup-tied after featuring in Everton’s 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth in the third round.

5. Christian Eriksen - ankle
Eriksen isn’t expected to return to action until April at the earliest after injuring his ankle via a crunching tackle from former Magpies and current Reading striker Andy Carroll.

6. Donny van de Beek - knee
Van de Beek will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign because of a knee injury sustained during a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at the beginning of last month.

7. Anthony Martial - hip
Martial has been sidelined with a hip injury in recent weeks. Ten Hag confirmed on Friday he wasn’t available for the trip to Wembley.

8. Joe Willock - 50/50
Howe revealed on Tuesday that Willock is “touch and go” to make Sunday’s final but encouragingly, the midfielder has been spotted in training this week.

9. Marcus Rashhord - question marks
Rashford has sparked injury fears after posting a photo to his Instagram story with the head bandage emoji following the win over Barcelona win. The question was put to ten Hag, but he replied “I don’t know”.
