‘Incredible’ player returns from injury, Naby Keita gets dropped: Liverpool predicted XI vs Wolves

After Saturday’s underwhelming stalemate against Crystal Palace, Liverpool will welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield on Wednesday night.
Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for an immediate reaction, with a huge clash against rivals Manchester United on Sunday also looming.

With Tottenham Hotspur only nine points ahead with the Reds’ two games in-hand, the Merseyside outfit can make ground on the top-four with a win against the Old Gold.

After the disappointment of the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, all eyes will be on the Premier League as Liverpool fight to save their season.

Here’s how we think they will line up.

Defence

Despite his mistake against Madrid, Alisson Becker will certainly remain in goal for Liverpool, having probably been the side’s best player this season.

With both Joe Gomez and Calvin Ramsay out injured, Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to start at right-back, with no obvious deputy.

Virgil van Dijk will lead the defensive line as the left sided centre-back, joined by Ibrahima Konate to his right. The 23-year-old has been out injured since January with a hamstring issue. Having returned to full training with the squad, Klopp will slot the Frenchman straight in at the back – with Joel Matip out of the form at the moment. This will be a huge boost for the Reds, as the ‘incredible’ defender will add stability to a shaky back-four.

Andy Robertson is likely to keep his spot at left-back over Kostas Tsimikas.

Midfield

After sitting out against Palace, Fabinho is expected to return to the XI as the side’s defensive midfielder.

As the captain of the team, Jordan Henderson will keep his spot, having picked up his form in recent weeks.

After a difficult outing at the weekend, Naby Keita drops to the bench in favour of Stefan Bajcetic. The 18-year-old has been exceptional since coming into the team this season, and Liverpool’s best performances as of late have come with this trio in the middle of the park. Keita may be used as an impact substitute if the Reds are looking for a late goal.

Attack

Mohamed Salah will of course keep his place on the right-wing, being one of the constants in Klopp’s XI.

Luis Diaz is still yet to return from his long-term injury, so he’s ruled out making a cameo. Darwin Nunez is touch-and-go at the moment, having suffered a should injury over the past week. Therefore, if he is to play, it will surely be off the bench.

Therefore, we believe Cody Gakpo will maintain his role down the middle, with Diogo Jota coming in off the left.

Roberto Firmino is also an option for Klopp, but he is yet to demonstrate why he should be starting over the Dutchman. He’s more likely to come on as a replacement for the final 20 minutes.

Come on Liverpool, back to winning ways please!

Predicted Liverpool XI vs Wolves: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Bajcetic; Salah, Gakpo, Jota.
