Why Leandro Trossard Arsenal wondergoal vs Leicester City was ruled out amid fresh VAR anger — Leaving Mikel Arteta Furious

Arsenal were denied an opener in their Premier League clash at Leicester City after VAR penalised Ben White for a foul on goalkeeper Danny Ward.
Arsenal were yet again at the centre of another controversial VAR call on Saturday after Leandro Trossard's goal versus Leicester City was ruled out.

The Gunners returned to action in their quest for a first Premier League title in 19 years after last week's dramatic win at Aston Villa. Victory over the Foxes would lift Arsenal six points clear of Manchester City with 14 games remaining.

Mikel Arteta handed Leandro Trossard his first league start since completing a £21million move from Brighton in the January transfer window, replacing Eddie Nketiah in the forward line.

And the Belgian thought he had repaid the Gunners boss' faith in the 26th minute when he arrowed a splendid effort into the top corner after picking up Granit Xhaka's pass inside the Leicester box. However, after a VAR check, Craig Pawson ruled out the goal after being ordered to review the goal on the pitchside screen.

Replays showed that Ben White had fouled goalkeeper Danny Ward from the initial corner. The defender's foul stopped the Wales international from collecting the ball before Trossard slammed the ball home.

The Premier League explained the decision to disallow the goal on Twitter by writing: "Leandro Trossard has the ball in the net for Arsenal, but after consulting VAR, referee Craig Pawson has overturned the goal because of sustained holding from Ben White on Danny Ward in the build-up."

It's not the first time Arsenal have been the victim of a harsh VAR call, with Ivan Toney's equaliser for Brentford earlier this month proving to be the wrong decision. Speaking previously about the technology, Arteta said: "I will only be satisfied if they give me the two points back (vs Brentford) which is not going to be the case. I appreciate what I think were really sincere, open and genuine apologies and explanations which is really good. But it doesn’t change the fact that we have two points less on the table."
