Report: Arsenal have now registered deadline day interest in 'complete' £22m midfielder

Arsenal have reportedly registered an interest in signing Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, though the Gunners face stern competition already from the likes of Liverpool.
According to the Chronicle, the north London club are the latest Premier League side to join the race for the Norwegian international, with Newcastle United, Fulham and Liverpool all chasing Berge, though it is Marco Silva’s side that currently lead the pack.

Signed for £22m in 2020, Berge has been one of Sheffield United’s best players in recent seasons and has been key to the Blades’ promotion push this campaign. However, the 24-year-old is now expected to leave Bramall Lane on deadline day, with the midfielder absent from this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Wrexham.

With time running out, Arsenal face a tight squeeze to secure a deal for Berge. And with completion already fierce, there’s every chance that the north London side will miss out on the Championship superstar, especially with the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool in the running for the midfielder.

Lauded by Chris Wilder as ‘a complete midfielder’, Berge’s time to leave Sheffield United appears to be now, with a deadline day move likely for the Norwegian international amid mounting Premier League interest. And whilst Arsenal’s main target is Moises Caicedo, the Championship titan would be a solid backup option.

Indeed, with talk of a move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, it is fairly evident that signing a player like Berge would be a better option for Arsenal and for Mikel Arteta’s squad, with club captain Martin Odegaard someone who would back his international teammate to flourish in north London if a deal is there to be done.
